Back ups & DR

  • What are Back ups & DR?

    • Back ups: Back ups refer to the process of copying and archiving computer data so it can be restored after a data loss event. This can include anything from personal files to entire databases.
    • DR (Disaster Recovery): Disaster Recovery involves a set of policies and procedures to enable the recovery or continuation of vital technology infrastructure and systemss following a natural or human-induced disaster.
  • Why are Back ups & DR important? Here are some key reasons:

    • Data Protection: Back ups protect your data by creating copies, which can be restored in case of data loss.
    • Business Continuity: DR ensures that your systemss and infrastructure can quickly return to normal after a disaster, minimizing downtime and loss of productivity.
  • Example - Using Back ups & DR in Personal Infrastructure: Suppose you have a home network with several devices and important data stored. You can set up regular back ups to an external hard drive or a cloud service. This way, if any of your devices fail or data is accidentally deleted, you can restore it from the back up. For DR, you could have a backup power supply to keep your network running during a power outage, or use a cloud-based service that can quickly restore your data and applications to a new device if your primary device is lost or damaged.
